The Supreme Court of New Zealand is the country's highest court and court of last resort, replacing appeals to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in London. Created by the Supreme Court Act 2003 and formally established on 1 January 2004, it sits at 85 Lambton Quay in Wellington and hears cases, including in employment, criminal and family law, that previously could not proceed past the Court of Appeal.
