The Federal Court of Justice, Germany's Bundesgerichtshof, is the country's highest court of ordinary civil and criminal jurisdiction, conducting final appellate review of lower court decisions for legal error. Established on 1 October 1950 under the Basic Law, it is organized into thirteen civil divisions and six criminal divisions and sits mainly in Karlsruhe, with two of its criminal divisions based in Leipzig.
