The Court of Cassation of Turkey, known as Yargitay, is the country's highest appellate body for civil and criminal cases, reviewing the verdicts of Turkey's ordinary courts as the last instance in the judicial system. Its lineage traces to the Divan-i Ahkam-i Adliye founded in 1868 under Sultan Abdulaziz, renamed Mahkeme-i Temyiz in 1879 and given its present name in 1945, and it sits in Ankara organized into thirty chambers, twenty civil and ten criminal.
