The Supreme Court of Finland is the court of last resort for Finland's private law, covering civil and criminal cases, while a separate Supreme Administrative Court handles administrative matters. Authorized by the Constitution of Finland and seated in Helsinki, it hears appeals from the Courts of Appeal, the Market Court and, in limited cases, the Insurance Court, with its president and its eighteen justices appointed by the President of Finland.
