Supreme Court of Bhutan

The Supreme Court of Bhutan is the highest court of review in the Kingdom of Bhutan and the ultimate interpreter of its Constitution. Its first Chief Justice, Sonam Tobgye, began his tenure on 21 February 2010. The court holds appellate jurisdiction over the decisions of lower courts in Bhutan and limited original jurisdiction over questions of significant public importance, and the King may refer constitutional questions to it for consideration and opinion. Its stated purpose is to help create a free, fair, just and harmonious society through the effective resolution of disputes and the expeditious dispensation of justice.
