Greek Constitution of 1822

The Greek Constitution of 1822, formally titled the Provisional Regime of Greece and sometimes translated as the Temporary Constitution of Greece, was adopted by the First National Assembly of Epidaurus on 1 January 1822, during the Greek War of Independence. It is considered the first constitution of modern Greece. Organized into four parts comprising 109 articles covering religious and civil rights, administrative matters, and legislative and executive duties, it was intended as a provisional framework for governmental and military organization until a permanent national parliament could be established. It was superseded by later constitutional documents as the revolutionary Greek state continued to reorganize itself over the following years.
