The Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles was ratified on 18 June 1993 following a referendum and took effect on 23 June 1993, replacing the 1979 constitution of the one-party era and transforming the country into a multi-party democracy; 18 June is now observed annually as Constitution Day. It establishes a presidential republic with a National Assembly legislature and a judiciary headed by the Supreme Court of Seychelles and a dedicated Constitutional Court. The document had received ten amendments as of 2022, the tenth of which drew significant criticism from civil society bodies including the Human Rights Commission and the Bar Association of Seychelles.
