Constitution of Jordan

The Constitution of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was adopted on 1 January 1952 and took effect eight days later, a liberalized revision of the 1947 constitution, itself a successor to the 1928 Organic Law of Transjordan, issued under King Talal after the 1951 assassination of King Abdullah I. It combines hereditary monarchy with a parliamentary system across executive, legislative and judicial branches, and it strengthened the elected House of Representatives with new powers to modify internal finances, ratify foreign treaties, remove the cabinet by a vote of no confidence and override royal vetoes.
