Constitution of Morocco

The Constitution of Morocco is the Basic Law of the Kingdom of Morocco. It defines Morocco as an Islamic constitutional monarchy, lays out the fundamental rights of Moroccan citizens, and defines the basis and structure of government, the council of ministers and the parliament. The first Constitution of Morocco was adopted in 1962, six years after the country regained independence, following which King Mohammed V worked to establish political and constitutional institutions; the first draft constitution was proposed on 18 November 1962, ratified by referendum on 7 December 1962 and promulgated a week later, on 14 December.
