Constitution of Zambia

Zambia's constitution was formally adopted in 1991 under President Kenneth Kaunda, replacing the 1964 independence constitution, and it has since been amended, most substantially in 2016. It establishes separation of powers among an executive of president and vice president, a legislature in the National Assembly, and an independent judiciary that includes a Constitutional Court and a Supreme Court. Its preamble declares Zambia a Christian nation while also guaranteeing freedom of conscience and religion, and affirms the country as a unitary, multi party, democratic sovereign state that recognizes its multi ethnic, multi racial, multi religious and multi cultural character.
