Gouverneur Morris, who lived from 1752 to 1816, was an American statesman and a Founding Father of the United States who signed both the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution. He wrote the Preamble to the Constitution and is remembered as the Penman of the Constitution for drafting its final text, and he was a vocal opponent of slavery during the Constitutional Convention. He later represented New York in the United States Senate from 1800 to 1803.
