Abdel Meguid Mahmoud

Abdel Meguid Mahmoud, born 1946, was the Egyptian Attorney General from 2006 to July 5, 2013. President Mohamed Morsi removed him from office on November 22, 2012 following a constitutional declaration, but on July 2, 2013 the Egyptian Court of Cassation ruled the removal illegal and reinstated him as general prosecutor of Egypt. President Morsi was deposed by the military the next day, and Mahmoud resigned on July 5, 2013, saying he wished to avoid the embarrassment of making judicial decisions against those who had removed him from office.
