Inger Louise Valle

Inger Louise Valle, who lived from 1921 to 2006, was a Norwegian jurist, criminologist and Labour Party politician born in Oslo. She served as Norway's Minister of Justice from 1973 to 1979, where she pursued humanistic, evidence-based penal reform, championing the 1979 abolition of capital punishment, a raised age of criminal responsibility, and the introduction of community service as a sentencing option, despite opposition even within her own party. She later served as Minister of Local Government from 1979 to 1980, as Norway's first Consumer Ombudsman, and represented Akershus in the Storting from 1977 to 1981.
