Christopher John Dodd, born May 27, 1944, is an American lobbyist, lawyer and Democratic Party politician who served as a United States senator from Connecticut from 1981 to 2011, the longest-serving senator in Connecticut's history; he earlier served in the United States House of Representatives from 1975 to 1981. He served as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee from 2007 until his retirement from politics, and is the partial namesake of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. He later served as chairman and chief lobbyist of the Motion Picture Association of America from 2011 to 2017.
