Joseph Honore Gerald Fauteux was a Canadian jurist born October 22, 1900 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, who served as a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada beginning in 1949. Nominated by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, he was elevated to Chief Justice of Canada in 1970, succeeding John Robert Cartwright and serving until 1973, when he was succeeded by Bora Laskin, completing twenty-four years on the court. He died September 14, 1980.
