John Wellington Gwynne was a Canadian lawyer born March 30, 1814 in Castleknock, Ireland, who practiced law in Upper Canada from 1837, was involved in railway ventures, served as a bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada, and was made Queen's Counsel in 1850. Nominated by Prime Minister John A. Macdonald, he served as a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1879 until his death on January 7, 1902, succeeding William Johnstone Ritchie's puisne seat and later being succeeded by David Mills.
