Norma Lucia Pina Hernandez

Norma Lucia Pina Hernandez, born July 29, 1960, in Mexico City, is a Mexican judge who became the first woman to serve as president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, holding that post from 2023 to 2025. She built a legal career of more than twenty seven years that included service as a judge on the Federal District administrative courts and as a circuit magistrate before her appointment as an associate justice of the Supreme Court on December 10, 2015, after two earlier unsuccessful attempts, and her election as president of the court Primera Sala, or First Chamber, in September 2016. As chief justice she was known for defending judicial independence, notably declining to participate in Mexico 2025 judicial elections, and in 2025 she received the International Association of Judges Judicial Independence Award alongside United Nations Special Rapporteur Margaret Satterthwaite.
