Pierre-Basile Mignault (1854-1945) was a Canadian lawyer and Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to a French-Canadian physician father and Irish mother, whose family relocated to Montreal in his childhood. He earned a Bachelor of Civil Law from McGill University in 1878, was admitted to the bar the same year, and became a McGill professor of civil law; between 1895 and 1916 he authored the nine-volume treatise Droit civil canadien on Quebec civil law, a work still cited by courts including Canada's highest tribunal. Prime Minister Robert Borden appointed him to the Supreme Court on October 25, 1918, and he served as a Puisne Justice until mandatory retirement at age 75 in 1929.
