John Idington (1840-1928) was a Canadian justice of the Supreme Court of Canada who practiced law in Stratford, Ontario, initially in partnership with the Liberal politician Robert MacFarlane, and served as Crown attorney and clerk of the peace for Perth County from 1879. After roughly a year on the High Court of Justice of Ontario, Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier appointed him to the Supreme Court to replace Justice Albert Clements Killam, and he served as a Puisne Justice from February 10, 1905 until his retirement on March 31, 1927, when Parliament amended the Supreme Court Act to set a mandatory retirement age of 75. He was described as an individualist and renegade whose judicial legacy included progressive civil rights stances in some cases, though critics considered his later jurisprudence increasingly erratic.
