Robert Sedgewick was a Canadian lawyer and judge born May 10, 1848 in Aberdeen, Scotland, who immigrated to Nova Scotia as an infant, graduated from Dalhousie University in 1867, helped found the Dalhousie law school in 1883, and served as Deputy Minister of Justice, where he contributed to Canada's first national Criminal Code enacted in 1892. Appointed by Prime Minister John Sparrow David Thompson, he served as a puisne justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1893 until his death on August 4, 1906 in Chester, Nova Scotia.
