Jean-Thomas Taschereau (1814-1893) was a Canadian jurist born in Quebec City into a prominent family whose father was a judge and whose brother became the first Canadian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He was admitted to the bar in 1836 after studying law in Paris, practiced law in Quebec City for eighteen years, and taught at Universite Laval from 1855 to 1857. He served as a Quebec Superior Court judge from 1865 and a Court of Queen's Bench judge from 1873, before his appointment as a Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada on September 30, 1875, a post he held until October 6, 1878. His son Louis-Alexandre later became Premier of Quebec and another son, Henri-Thomas, became Chief Justice of Quebec.
