Pakistan gathers the modern Chief Justices and Justices of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the country's apex court, which took its modern form under the Constitution promulgated on 23 March 1956 and descends from the Federal Court partitioned between India and Pakistan at independence in 1947. This bench has repeatedly sat at the center of Pakistan's constitutional and political crises, from Chief Justice Muhammad Munir's doctrine of necessity validating extra-constitutional takeovers, through the court's later assertions of judicial independence and suo motu activism, to landmark rulings on the disqualification of sitting prime ministers.

  • Introduction
SCP; Urdu: عدالتِ عظمیٰ پاکستان, romanised: 'Adālat-e-'Uzmā Pākistān) is the supreme judicial authority and the apex court of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
  • History section
After the partition of India in 1947, the Federal Court was also partitioned between India and Pakistan as Justice Sir Harilal Kania became the first Chief Justice of India and Justice Sir Abdul Rashid becoming the first Chief Justice of Pakistan. While the tradition of British law culture continues to remain an integral part of the judiciary, the modern existence of the Supreme Court of Pakistan came when the first set of the Constitution of Pakistan was promulgated on 23 March 1956.
