Dunstan Mlambo

Dunstan Mlambo (born September 1959) is a South African judge who has served as Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa since August 2025. He completed a B.Proc. degree in 1983 from the University of the North and was admitted as an attorney in 1990, before serving as an acting judge of the Labour Court and later the Labour Appeal Court, the South Gauteng High Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal. He was Judge President of the Labour Court and then Judge President of the Gauteng Division of the High Court from November 2012 to August 2025. He is best known for his 2014 ruling permitting live audio broadcast and partial television coverage of the Oscar Pistorius murder trial, balancing freedom of expression against the defendant right to a fair trial, and for championing the expansion of court-annexed mediation in South Africa, including directing judges to receive mediator training.
