Johnson Gicheru

Johnson Evan Gicheru (died 2020) was a Kenyan lawyer who served as the twelfth Chief Justice of Kenya, appointed by President Mwai Kibaki after the 2003 election and holding office from February 2003 to February 2011, the longest term served by any Chief Justice in Kenya's history. He rose through the judiciary as senior state counsel in the Attorney General's office, an administrative officer in the Office of the President, a High Court judge from 1982, and a Court of Appeal judge from 1988, and he chaired the judicial inquiry into the death of Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko, though the commission was dissolved before it released its findings.
