Law in Africa

Law in Africa spans the fifty six independent nations of the continent, whose legal systems are variously defined by customary law, religious law, common law, Western civil law, and combinations of these traditions. The resulting diversity reflects the distinct colonial and precolonial history of each country as well as differences in constitutional and institutional structure from one African state to the next.
