Cuneiform law refers to any of the legal codes written in cuneiform script that were developed and used across the ancient Middle East by peoples including the Sumerians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Elamites, Hurrians, Kassites and Hittites. The best known of these is the Code of Hammurabi, but it had a number of precursor codes among the earlier cuneiform legal traditions it drew on.
