Fueros of Navarre

Medieval and Early Modern Constitutional Charters

The Fueros of Navarre were the laws of the Kingdom of Navarre until 1841, tracing their origin to the Early Middle Ages and to Basque customary law from across the western Pyrenees. They functioned as a kind of constitution, regulating the social order and defining the position of the king, the nobility and judicial procedure, so that royal decisions had to conform to the provisions the charters set out.
