Zakon Sudnyi Liudem

Zakon Sudnyi Liudem is the oldest preserved Slavic legal text, a guide written in Old Church Slavonic for the management of the church and the church court, dated to the end of the 9th or the early 10th century. Its authorship is unknown, though scholars trace it to either the First Bulgarian Empire or Great Moravia, with some proposing the Principality of Lower Pannonia given the Frankish and Bavarian legal influences in the text. Its oldest surviving version has about thirty chapters focused on penal law, drawn substantially from the Byzantine Ekloge ton nomon, and though all surviving manuscripts come from Russia, the text profoundly shaped later Russian legal development.
