Al-Suyuti (c. 1445-1505) was an Egyptian Sunni Muslim polymath of Persian descent who lived under the Mamluk Sultanate and followed the Shafii school of Islamic jurisprudence, recognized as the leading authority of that school in his era. He held the title Shaykh al-Islam and was described as a leading hadith master, Quran exegete and jurist, reportedly having memorized more than 200,000 hadiths. He was one of the most prolific authors in Islamic history, credited with roughly one thousand works across more than 700 subjects.
