Sturla Thordarson

Sturla Thordarson (29 July 1214 to 30 July 1284) was an Icelandic chieftain and writer of sagas and contemporary history during the 13th century, and the nephew and pupil of the lawspeaker and saga author Snorri Sturluson. He served for a period as lawspeaker over all of Iceland and was also court skald to the Swedish ruler Birger Jarl. He is best known for his sagas, particularly Islendinga saga and Hakonar saga Hakonarsonar, and much academic debate concerns evaluating his life and his biases as a historian of medieval Iceland and Norway.
