Al-Bayhaqi, in full Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Musa al-Khusrawjirdi al-Bayhaqi and known as Imam al-Bayhaqi, was an eleventh-century Sunni scholar renowned as the foremost hadith master of his age and a leading authority in the Shafii school of Islamic law. He was also a leading authority on the foundation of doctrine and one of the notable defenders of the Ashari school, active in Bayhaq, Nishapur, and across Khorasan, Iran, Iraq, and the Hijaz.
