Abu Muhammad Said ibn al-Musayyib ibn Hazn al-Makhzumi (637 to 715) was one of the foremost authorities of Islamic jurisprudence, fiqh, among the taba i-een, the generation that succeeded the companions of Muhammad, and was based in Medina. He stands as the most eminent of the Seven Fuqaha of Medina in Sunni Muslim tradition, and his jurisprudential interpretations were transmitted through both Syrian and Medinan scholarly schools. Later jurists including Malik ibn Anas and al-Shafii regarded his hadith narrations as authentic without requiring further source verification.
