Ibn Jurayj (699-768) was an eighth century Islamic scholar of Mecca belonging to the tabiun, the generation following the companions of Muhammad, and a pioneering figure in Islamic jurisprudence and hadith scholarship. He served as the mufti of Mecca and is credited with originating the musannaf genre, a thematic arrangement of hadith, through his compilation Kitab al-Sunan. He also composed one of the earliest works of Quranic exegesis and a manual on pilgrimage rites, and his hadith transmissions appear in all six canonical Sunni collections.
