Abu Abdallah Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi was a ninth-century Persian Sunni jurist (faqih) and hadith traditionist of Khorasan. Although trained and active as a jurist, he is remembered above all as one of the earliest and most influential authors on Islamic mysticism, helping to shape the early literature of Sufism.
