Zahiri School Jurists gathers the scholars of the Zahiri school of Sunni Islamic law, founded on the teaching of Dawud al-Zahiri in ninth century Baghdad and distinguished by its rejection of analogical reasoning and juristic preference in favor of the literal, apparent, zahir, meaning of the Quran and hadith. The school survived as an organized legal tradition longest in al-Andalus and North Africa before its formal legal following declined, though its literalist method continued to influence later Islamic legal thought.
