Kemaleddin Mehmed (1553 to 1621) was an Ottoman jurist and scholar born in Istanbul, the son of the historian Taskoprulzade. Beginning as a madrasah professor in 1576, he went on to hold judgeships, or qadi posts, in Thessaloniki, Uskudar, Aleppo, Damascus, Cairo, Galata, Bursa and Istanbul between 1591 and 1603, before reaching the senior judicial rank of kazasker of Anatolia in 1603 and later serving repeatedly as kazasker of Rumelia, most recently from January 1621. He was also a prolific translator and author, and he produced the first Ottoman encyclopedia, Mevzuat al-Ulum, by expanding on an earlier work by his father.
