Ishaq ibn Rahwayh (777-852) was a Sunni Muslim scholar and hadith specialist born in Merv and based in Nishapur, who founded an independent legal school that was influential in his lifetime though it did not survive as a separate tradition. He compiled the hadith collection al-Musnad and directly inspired Muhammad al-Bukhari to compile Sahih al-Bukhari. He held traditionalist positions opposed to rationalist legal methods and taught several of the compilers of the six major hadith collections.
