Abu Bakr ibn al-Arabi (c. 1076-1148) was an Andalusian Muslim judge, qadi, and jurist of the Maliki school, regarded as a leading authority on hadith and Islamic law. He played a significant role in spreading the theological and philosophical teachings of al-Ghazali across the Muslim west, while also critically engaging with some of the positions held by al-Ghazali. His scholarly writings covered Quranic interpretation and legal theory.
