Anselm of Lucca, born Anselm of Baggio (1036 to 18 March 1086), was a bishop of Lucca in Italy and a leading figure on the reforming side of the Investiture Controversy. In his final years he assembled a collection of ecclesiastical law canons in thirteen books, one of the earliest such collections supporting the Gregorian reforms, and it revived the Novellae of Justinian as a foundation for the use of Roman law in the Middle Ages. His collection was later drawn on by Gratian in compiling the Decretum. He is distinguished from his uncle of the same name, who preceded him as bishop of Lucca before becoming Pope Alexander II.
