Akhil Reed Amar, born September 6, 1958, is an American legal scholar who is Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University. He has written on a wide range of constitutional topics, including voting rights, jury reform, the Guarantee Clause, the Electoral College, the Bill of Rights, the Fourteenth Amendment, American federalism, slavery, originalism and criminal procedure. After clerking for Justice Stephen Breyer, he joined the Yale Law School faculty in 1985, and his work has been cited by Supreme Court justices in more than fifty cases.
