Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya (1292 to 1350) was a medieval Syrian Arab Islamic jurist, theologian, and spiritual writer belonging to the Hanbali school of fiqh, in which he is regarded as one of its most important thinkers. He was the foremost disciple of Ibn Taymiyya, with whom he was imprisoned in 1326 for dissenting against established tradition during Ibn Taymiyya's incarceration in the Citadel of Damascus.
