Haukr Erlendsson

Haukr Erlendsson (died 1334) served as lawspeaker of Iceland no later than 1294 until 1299, and later as lawspeaker in Norway at Oslo and the Gula Thing from 1303 to 1322, receiving the title of knight by 1311. He is remembered today chiefly for the Hauksbok, a manuscript compilation named for him and largely written in his own hand, which gathers Icelandic sagas including a version of Eiriks saga rauda documenting Thorfinn Karlsefni attempted colonization of North America, a redaction of the Landnamabok, an arithmetical treatise called the Algorismus, and a set of annals recording events of his own lifetime.
