Firuzabadi

Firuzabadi (1329 to 1414), whose proper name was Abu'l-Tahir Muhammad ibn Yaqub ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Majd al-Din al-Shafii al-Shirazi, was a Persian Sunni Muslim polymath. He excelled in hadith, grammar, philology, history, literature, poetry and Islamic jurisprudence, and was a revered narrator and preserver of Prophetic traditions. He is regarded as one of the leading lexicographers of the medieval Islamic world, and compiled Al-Qamus al-Muhit, a comprehensive Arabic dictionary that remained one of the most widely used reference works in Arabic lexicography for nearly five centuries.
