FAQs

Why is Gouverneur Morris called the Penman of the Constitution?

He helped draft the final text of the Constitution and wrote its preamble.

Morris was a member of the Committee of Style, the committee that settled the final wording of the United States Constitution. He contributed substantially to drafting the final version and is credited with writing its preamble, which is why he is remembered by that nickname.
