Fatoumata Dembele Diarra

Fatoumata Dembele Diarra, born 15 February 1949 in Koulikoro, French West Africa, present-day Mali, is a Malian lawyer and judge who earned a Bachelor of Laws from Dakar University, a Master of Laws from Mali's Ecole Nationale d'Administration, and training from Paris's Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature. Within Mali's judiciary she served as an examining magistrate, president of the Assize Court, president of the Criminal Chamber of the Bamako Appeals Court, and national director of the Justice Department, and she was a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia from 2001 to 2003. She was elected one of the first judges of the International Criminal Court in 2003, serving until 2014 after her term was extended to complete the trial of Germain Katanga, and was First Vice-President of the Court from 2009 to 2012 under President Sang-Hyun Song while sitting on the Trial Division.
