Anthony Carmona

Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona, born 7 March 1953 in Fyzabad, Trinidad and Tobago, is a Trinidadian jurist and politician who graduated from Presentation College, San Fernando, and studied at the University of the West Indies and Hugh Wooding Law School from 1973 to 1983. He rose through Trinidad and Tobago's legal service as State Counsel, Senior State Attorney from 1989, and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions from 1994 to 1999, served as appeals counsel at international tribunals in The Hague and Arusha from 2001 to 2004, and became a High Court Judge in 2004. He was elected a judge of the International Criminal Court on 12 December 2011 with 72 of 104 votes, took office on 11 March 2012, and resigned on 18 March 2013 to become the fifth President of Trinidad and Tobago, a post he held from 18 March 2013 to 19 March 2018, succeeding George Maxwell Richards and preceding Paula-Mae Weekes.
