Jose Isidro Fabela Alfaro, who lived from June 28, 1882, to August 12, 1964, was a Mexican politician, diplomat, judge, professor and writer born in Atlacomulco. He belonged to the Ateneo de la Juventud, an intellectual circle that opposed the Porfirio Diaz regime alongside figures such as Jose Vasconcelos and Diego Rivera, and he later served as governor of the State of Mexico. As head of the Mexican delegation to the League of Nations from 1937 to 1940, he presented Mexico's formal protest against Nazi Germany's annexation of Austria in March 1938, the only such protest lodged with the League by any nation. After serving as a Mexican senator, he was appointed a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1946 and served until 1952.
