Robert Fremr

Robert Fremr is a Czech jurist, born in 1957, who served as a judge of the International Criminal Court from 2012 to 2021 and as First Vice-President of the court from 2018 to 2021. Before his ICC appointment he built an extensive judicial career in Czech courts, including service on the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic, and he sat as a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda from 2006 to 2008 and again from 2010 to 2011. At the ICC he presided over the case against Congolese military commander Bosco Ntaganda, who was sentenced in November 2019 to 30 years in prison for murder, rape and conscripting child soldiers, the longest sentence the court had issued to that date, and he took part in a 2021 ruling that ordered 30 million dollars in compensation for victims in that case.
