Levi Fernandes Carneiro, who lived from August 8, 1882, in Niteroi, Brazil, to September 5, 1971, in Rio de Janeiro, was a Brazilian jurist trained at the Free Law School of Rio de Janeiro. He was one of the founders and the first president of the Brazilian Bar Association and also led the Brazilian Institute of Lawyers, and he served as General Counsel of the Republic under President Getulio Vargas from 1930 to 1932 and as a Constituent Deputy in 1934. He was appointed a judge of the International Court of Justice in 1951 and served until 1954, succeeding fellow Brazilian jurist Philadelpho Azevedo.
