Sang-Hyun Song

Song Sang-hyun, born 21 December 1941 in Keijo, present-day Seoul, under Japanese rule, is a South Korean lawyer who earned an LL.B. from Seoul National University in 1963, studied at Tulane University as a Fulbright Fellow, took a diploma in comparative legal studies at Cambridge, and received a J.S.D. from Cornell Law School. He lectured at Melbourne, Harvard, New York University and Seoul National University. He served as a judge of the International Criminal Court from 11 March 2003 to 10 March 2015, initially elected for a three-year term and re-elected in 2006 for nine years, and was assigned to the Appeals Division; he was elected the Court's President on 11 March 2009 and served until 10 March 2015. He has received Cornell University's Distinguished Alumni Medal, the Korean Federal Bar Association's Legal Culture Award, and South Korea's National Decoration of the Moran Order.
